Oprah’s Healthy Turkey Burger

I first discovered this amazing Turkey Burger recipe in People Magazine as a featured recipe from none other than Oprah Winfrey.  Its the Easiest and by far the tastiest turkey burger I have tasted.  It not only tastes amazing, It’s also Healthy too!  My favorite added ingredient is the mango chutney!

Serves 4

¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
2 tbsp. Major Grey’s mango chutney
1 tbsp. Kikkoman’s Low sodium soy sauce
1 tsp. sea salt

4 Slices of Boars Head Mozarella C
½ tsp. curry powder

½ tsp. chipotle chili powder

2 garlic cloves, grated
½ Gala apple, coarsely chopped
1 scallion, coarsely chopped
1½ lbs. Jennie O Lean Ground Turkey

1 tsp. canola oil

4 pretzel buns, toasted (I like most people don’t make there own burger buns, so for the pretzel buns I purchased once at  Bare burger and another time I got Pretzel Croissants from Dunkin Donuts)

1. Process cilantro, mango chutney, soy sauce, salt, curry powder, chipotle chili powder, garlic, apple and scallion in a food processor until smooth, 1 to 2 minutes, stopping to scrape sides as needed. (If you don’t have a large food processor, which i have a small. I process everything in a blender until only slightly chunky)

2. Combine apple mixture and turkey in a large bowl, and mix with hands until thoroughly combined. Divide mixture into 4 equal portions, and form each into a loose ball. Pat balls lightly to flatten into ¾-inch-thick patties. Let patties stand at room temperature until they have lost their chill, 15 to 20 minutes.

3. Heat a large, heavy skillet, preferably cast-iron, over medium. Add oil, and swirl to coat; add patties. Cook until browned on both sides and cooked all the way through, about 6 minutes per side. Remove from skillet, and serve on pretzel buns with your choice of toppings and condiments.

**Tip, I added my favorite cheese Mozzarella, lettuce, a slice of tomato, and Mayo.  Don’t add too much as this turkey burger is very flavorful.  Also if you ditch the bun its gluten friendly and less carbs!

  1. love the idea to have some citrus from fruit for grill meats. Personally, I like to use Pineapple syrup to have a kick of sweetness, which is perfect for summer cook out. 🙂
